Inspiring Teacher Enquiry is a six-session professional learning programme delivered across one academic session which affords practitioners the opportunity to focus on their own pedagogy and develop the skills to lead improvements in teaching and learning.
The requirement for an Inspiring Teacher Enquiry programme originated from a training needs analysis based on school responses and professional learning evaluations. The development of the course structure and content involved consultations with teachers, professional learning providers, national bodies and educators with specialist knowledge or expertise.
Practitioners will develop self-reflection and evaluation skills through collaborative practice. The programme will pose and explore critical questions about self, students, school and system through practitioner enquiry.
The course outline is as follows:
- Session 1 – Learning about ourselves, learning about the framework
- Session 2 – Practitioner enquiry
- Session 3 – Relationships and data
- Session 4 – Learning more about ourselves, learning more about the framework
- Session 5 – Leading a learning community
- Session 6 – Practitioner enquiry showcase
The main target audience for the Inspiring Teacher Enquiry Programme is the classroom practitioner within the primary, secondary and special sectors. The programme will also be of interest to a wider range of educators, for example heads of early years establishments, principal teachers, support for learning teachers or pupil support assistants.
During the application process, advice and guidance will be provided to potential participants to ensure that this programme is appropriate to meet their needs.
The course is designed to support and develop education professionals who want to refine their own practice, who want to mentor or coach colleagues or who want to lead pedagogical change within and beyond their classroom context. These may include aspirant middle leaders or practitioners committed to structured career long learning that is professionally endorsed and recognised.
Running over one academic year, the six sessions will run from 1:30-3:30 on Friday afternoons with an expectation of professional reading and practical application of learning between each session.
