With the ever-changing situation with COVID-19, it is a challenging time for everyone but we at Education Scotland are doing our very best to ensure that those across the education system are supported during this unprecedented time. Our team is working hard with and for practitioners to ensure wellbeing is prioritised, learning continues at home and interesting practice is shared. Our National Improvement Hub now has a range of support to help practitioners develop online opportunities for learning remotely.

We are working closely with local authorities and are supporting them in a variety of ways which suit local needs. We will continue to work with them and other national bodies over the coming weeks to look at a range of innovations to support the learning of our children and young people at this time. We are also working closely to support the Scottish Government to ensure advice and support for learning continues during this challenging period. One of these approaches is to provide a national platform and safe space where educators can connect online to discuss issues they are working through and, where relevant, to share resources or to highlight interesting practice which is being undertaken. The Education Scotland Big Blether is a series of virtual events hosted on Microsoft Teams and Google Classroom.

Once you have registered, we will issue the joining instructions prior to the event start time. Please make sure that you enter the correct email address upon registration.

The broad themes for discussion at this meet will be:

  • Theme 1 - Operational challenges - eg Redeployment or furloughing of CLD staff; transferring CLD services online etc.
  • Theme 2 - Engagement and learning - what’s working well?
  • Theme 3 - Supporting the health and wellbeing of CLD participants and staff.
  • Theme 4 - Looking forward - CLD engagement after the lockdown.

Participants will be asked to submit a question/key topic within these themes when they register, to generate the conversation. Depending on demand we will run smaller, specifically themed meets for particular groups in the coming months.
